Too hot to handle!!!
Yes, these tiny little chillis are the hottest chilli in the world - Bhut Jolokia and Bih Jolokia. Bih is poison, Bhut or bhoot is ghost and Jolokia is chilli in Assamese. (Thanks to Surajit for these translations).
The Guinness Book of World Records has awarded these chillis as the world's hottest. Bhut Jolokia comes in at 1,001,304 Scoville heat units, a measure of hotness for a chilli. It is nearly twice as hot as Red Savina, the variety it replaces as the hottest. By comparison, an average jalapeno measures at about 10,000. More on this here.
Since these are from Assam, I asked Surajit for more details. He says that 1 chilli is finely cut and used by a family for 3-4 days!! He has promised to get some of these chillis when he goes home the next time. I shall share my experience when I eat them.
